The Gemenc Forest, with its
regularly flooded 180 km2 area, is not only the largest floodplain forest in
Hungary, but also unique in Europe. The ecotourism center offers an interactive
exhibition on the floodplain wildlife, material on forest and wildlife
management, Sárköz folk art, wildlife observation, bike and canoe rental. From
here, the Gemenc Forest Railway runs daily to the floodplain. The small railway
runs on weekdays to Malomtelelő, on weekends to Gemenc-Danube shore to Keselyűs
and Bárányfok stops, with closed, heated cars in winter. The trip can be
supplemented by cruises, horse riding, hiking, for which professional guidance
is available.
